TGIF My Lovelies!
Gosh, its been a super busy week with the kids and different projects so I’ve barely had time to blog. We decided that we would celebrate Valentine with the kids early, because 1. I work the weekend and 2. we wanted to avoid all the crowds that would be out and about too. The hubby and I decided that we would each go on individual dates with the kids, to sort of spend some quality one on one time with them. Abigail was really excited about the idea, and she insisted that she needed a new red dress to match her sparkly red shoes, and of course, I had no problem obliging her. (haha). She picked Michael Miller’s Paris Petite Hearts, because she said the doodle hearts were “soooo cute”. lol. (You can find it HERE).
Because I was pressed for time, I decided to use a pattern I already had, instead of trying to draft one. I think it came out pretty well! Read my pattern review below:
Pattern Description: Simplicity 9142 – VIEW B
Pattern Sizing: I cut a size 1 and used a 5/8 seam allowance.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing it? For the most part, but that is due to my alternations to the pattern.
Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes. I was able to finish within a few hours.
What did you particularly like about the pattern? I absolutely love the cute, yet simple vintage style of this dress. It reminds me of Little House on the Prairie don’t you think so? lol
What did you dislike about the pattern? Nothing.
Fabric Used: Quilting Cotton
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I made several: I lined the bodice so that the neckline would have a nice clean finish, I also lowered the neckline 1/2 an inch (Abigail is not very fond of anything up close to her neck the way the original was). Instead of creating my own collar, I used some crochet ones I had in my stash.
I also used an invisible zipper and eliminated the hook and eye.
I took some scraps and made a matching bow for her hair.
After I was done she insisted on trying the whole ensemble together to see how it would look. lol
I think she was pleased. =)
Now for action shots of our valentine date night with the kiddos:
Check out our very handsome dates! lol
My date even brought me flowers =) Isn’t he just handsome! I’m so not ready for the teenage years! (Yes, I have a pre-teen, I’m really that old! lol)
And Abbie’s date brought her some too! She was cheesing the whole time! lol
We decided we would all drive to the Cheesecake factory together BUT get separate tables….you know, because gas prices went up again recently. (lol) What’s so funny is that after Adrian and I were seated, we noticed that Shaun and Abbie were seated on the patio right to us, what were the odds of that happening!? She thought it was hilarious! lol
We had a wonderful night, the food was good but the company was greater. After dinner and dessert, we all took a stroll around the grove enjoying the lighted water show.
We haven’t been able to spend much quality time with the kids individually, because of our work schedules so this was a real treat for all us. Definitely memories worth creating and having!
That’s it for today guys, wishing you all a wonderful and safe Valentine weekend surrounded by lots of love and cake and ALL that makes your heart happy! Talk to you soon!
