Yesterday we spent the day at Disney California Adventure Park to bring in Abigail’s 3rd Birthday (which is actually today! =) ) . It was just the 3 the of us because big brother said he’s “too old for Disney now” *GASP* – can you believe that? Plus it was a school day too.
We chose Disney California Adventure Park because they had a whole attraction dedicated to just Ariel the Little Mermaid, how cool is that? And yes, naturally I had to make her a mermaid inspired dress for our outing. Both these fabrics are from Michael Miller Fabrics, how cool is that Mermaid Scale Print?
I wanted to give the dress a more princessy look, so I added a tulle skirt at the bottom and used the lace to make her a crown. I used the same measurements that I had drafted for her sweetheart dress a few blogs ago. (You can find it HERE)
Now for ACTION SHOTS:
She was so excited to be at Disney.
First order of business, was deciding where to go first! lol
Her face when she saw The Little Mermaid Attraction Ride.
She loved this ride so much we rode it about SIX times! The animatronics were amazing!
Then we were off to King Tritons Carousel.
After a few hours we changed into some more comfortable clothes so she could run around and have some fun. Like running through the water spouts at the “Bug’s Life” attraction. lol
Then a small break to refuel with some gourmet ice-cream! This was the best ice-cream I’ve ever tasted, hands down!
Then off we went to Arendelle for some Frozen fun!
She built a snowman…
Threw snowballs at Daddy….lol
Experienced some “snow” falling…..lol
and even met OLAF!
After our snow fun, we went to the FROZEN SING A LONG FUN! Where we got to sing the songs from the Frozen soundtrack with some of the Frozen characters. It was like one giant Karaoke with parents and kids singing along at the top of their voices! US included! It was so much fun! lol
Then she got to meet Anna and Elsa after. She was totally “star struck” lol.
After our Frozen adventure, we went to the Animation Studio Tour where we learned how to draw Olaf using basic shapes. This was the hubby’s favorite part! lol
We ended the day with another round of ice-cream and a hug from Mickey!
It was a great day out, the weather was beautiful and most importantly the Abigail enjoyed herself. That’s all for today guys! I’m off to spend the rest of the day with the Birthday Girl – we plan on doing absolutely nothing today! haha! XOXO

I love this dress. I was wondering if you might recall the name of the mermaid scale print. I am having the hardest time finding it.
Hi Samantha, I know it was a Batik…I did some googling and this is one of the prints in a different color way. I’m not sure if its s till in print but hopefully this helps! http://www.cottonpatchquiltshop.com/shop/Fabrics/Michael-Miller/p/Spa-Scallop-Jade-Batik-x5364064.htm
Beautiful dress! So excited to find this dress on Pinterest! Seeing your dress inspired me to make one for my granddaughter’s 3rd birthday!
Yay! So glad to hear that Vicki! =)
How many inches did you add to
Back with elastic?
Gosh this was so long ago, its hard to remember. I’m pretty sure I went off the measurement of her back and took away an inch from that back measurement.
This dress is gorgeous! Any chance you would sell it to me?
Thank you Jennie, gosh, even if I wanted to, I couldn’t – she wears this dress constantly and now its very very stained and worn lol
Hi, Do you make these to sell? Thank you.
Hi Sue, I’m sorry, currently I do not sew for sale. But I’m sure you could find tons of talented people on easy who do.
I’m curious how you attached the tulle. The dress is amazing!
Thank you Star, there’s a skirt lining I made about 6 inches shorter than the dress. Then I gathered the tulle and added it to the lining =)
What color of the Michael Miller fabric is that purple? Is it the grape broadcloth? Thank you!
It’s from the Cotton Couture collection – Lavendar – http://www.michaelmillerfabrics.com/cotton-couture-41.html
May i ask where you found the pattern and the green skirt fabric?! my daughter is having an ariel party for her 4th bday this year and i would love to make one for her. Thank you
Hi Tyler, I used a pattern I drafted for her from a dress I made the year before (its linked in the blog) but this was before I thought to show how I did it. haha. The fabric information is also linked in the blog. It’s from Michael Miller. Hope your daughter has a wonderful birthday! =)
Hi! I was wondering what color tulle you used for this mermaid dress!?
Hi Nicole, I know its a glitter tulle, and I believe it was sea foam green =)
Okay! I was wondering where you purchased it from? I can’t find this color anywhere! :/
Thanks so much!
I actually got it in a “mystery box” from a de-stash group on Facebook….lol. Was my first time seeing glitter tulle too. lol

Hi Larenda, Thank you so much =) ….and I’m so sorry, I’m closed for custom orders at the moment. =(
I’m in love with this dress! My daughter is turning 2 in May and the theme is pirates and mermaids! Do you make these dresses for sale?!
Hi Paola, thank you so much! <3 What a lovely theme for a birthday party! I love it! Unfortunately, I made this dress using Abigail's measurements, so I don't have a pattern to use if I wanted to sew them for sale. I'm sorry. =(
Perfection. The dress was absolutely adorable. I would ask you to make Ryan one but she said she’s “over” Ariel *GASPS* LOL
Thank you Marquette! Oh noo….Ryan just broke my heart! lololol
