Wow Wow Wow….its been a minute, and by a minute I mean 612 days (to be exact) since I last blogged.
Quite honestly, I needed the break.
I knew eventually I’d find my way back to sewing, and I trusted that once I was ready, the perfect patterns to get me back into the swing of things would find me, and they did. I knew they had to be something that was a relatively quick sew but that had beautiful clean finishes, and they do.
Sewing up two new patterns for Project Run and Play, Under the Seaside Collection for Lookbook #10, was not only very satisfying but also served as the perfect way to get me back into the swing of sewing. I decided to sew up the Reef Top and Seaside Shorts both patterns by Suco by Susana. Let’s talk about them.
The Reef Top is a flowy design for lightweight woven fabrics, designed for girls, perfect for the warm weather. It features a gathered waist with elastic that sits on the natural waist, final length hits on the high hip, self fabric straps and flounces around the upper chest fitted to the body with elastic. It has no closures and has plenty of ease making it easy to pull on over the head and comfortable to wear.

The Reef Top was a really enjoyable sew. It was quick to stitch together with its charming ruffle details, which I think gives it just the right amount of a whimsical beachy vibe.
The Seaside Shorts are a fitted design for woven fabrics, designed for girls. The shorts sit on the natural waist, have darts in the front and back, a waist facing instead of a waistband, front pockets, and close with an invisible zipper in the left side seam. Includes options for front buttons, back elastic waist, belt loops and a sash.

The Seaside Shorts features a relaxed fit and a stylish high-waisted design which made them a perfect complement to the Seaside Top. BUT my favorite thing about these shorts other than the perfect deep pockets is the fact that it has an invisible zipper side closure! If you’ve followed me long enough, you know that invisible zippers are my all time favorite closures, so it’s no wonder this was such an enjoyable sew for me!
I also do like that this pattern has the option for adding an elastic back, which is perfect for Abbie since she’s growing like a weed and she slims out around the waist making it harder for some pants to actually fit right, but with the elastic back its a guaranteed sure snug fit.
All in all, the patterns are well-drafted and the step-by-step instructions provided the necessary guidance and inspiration, reminding me of the joy and satisfaction that comes from creating garments from scratch. With each stitch, my skills were reignited, and my confidence soared. It was an invigorating experience that reminded me of the boundless creativity and fulfillment that sewing brings. I’m looking forward to see what next sparks my sewing mojo, until then, please enjoy some action shots below!
