Good Morning Lovelies!

We made our last Disneyland visit for this year last week and I decided it was much too cold to consider any cosplay dresses. The wind chill was something fierce! Brrrr!!! I had some more Disney knit in my stash and again, turned to the inter webs to search for a suitable pattern. I wanted something with a turtle neck or cowl neck and came across the darling Uptown/Downtown Dress by Sew Straight & Gather.

The Uptown/Downtown Dress is a simple yet versatile A-line dress that can be sewn to look semi formal, completely casual or somewhere in between. The dress can be made with or without sleeves with two sleeve options. It also includes three additional options to bridge the functionality of the dress so you may achieve different look every time it’s sewn! ~ Reversible, Bias & Lace overlay – cited from Sew Straight and Gather

I purchased the Expansion pack which included 5 more design options, one of which was “the cool cowl” neck; it was perfect for what I was looking for!

Here’s my review:

Pattern DescriptionThe Uptown/Downtown Dress & Expansion Pack

Pattern Sizing: I cut a size 2 according to Abbie’s chest measurement.

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing it?  YES

Were the instructions easy to follow?  Yes. I love that the pattern was so simple and easy to follow, I was done within 2 hours.

What did you particularly like about the pattern?  THE COWL! It’s so so cute! I decided to do a bit of a color block with the cowl just to make it fun and funky.

What did you dislike about the pattern? Nothing.

Fabric Used: Disney Knit

Pattern alterations or any design changes you madeI want a little narrower cowl (for more neck coverage) and so I trimmed down the width a by half an inch.

If you’re looking to learn to sew with knit, or you want a quick gratifying sew with a bunch of sleeve and length options, this is a wonderful pattern to start with. You really cannot go wrong with a simple A-line dress.

That’s it for today guys! I hope you guys are having a wonderful Holiday season so far! Christmas is only 3 days away now! Stay safe and Happy Holidays! I’ll talk to you soon! xoxo

  1. Love this dress! I have the same pattern. Can I ask how old your daughter is? My granddaughter is 5 and her chest measurement is 21″, so I should use the size 2 also? Just seems odd since she wears a size 6 in store-bought clothes.

    1. Thank you Kathy! Abigail will be 4 in just a couple weeks, and her chest is 20 inches. It’s knit so it should have some stretch. So yes I would go with whatever range she falls into on the pdf pattern according to her chest size. PDF patterns vary so much depending on what measuring/metric system a designer uses. For some designers Abigail falls into a size 18mths (like the pattern I’m currently testing now) …while others she falls into a 3T. So don’t worry much about what RTW size she’s in, just go by the pattern =).
