Happy Tuesday guys!

A couple weeks ago we got invited to a birthday party at the Japanese Gardens and I decided to make a dress for Abbie to match the theme….you know…just because I could…haha. The party was two days away and I had the Rebel Girl Party Dress due too, so I decided to go through my pattern stash to see if I could find something that could work – verses spending time drafting a pattern. I envisioned a wrap kimono look and I thought the Pagoda Garden from Michael Miller Fabrics paired with Butterrick 6046 View D would work perfectly.

UNFORTUNATELY, I didn’t realize that the date and time of the party was the same day as Adrian’s Karate award ceremony (he earned a stripe on his belt and his split badge) and so we had to miss the birthday party. =(  But that didn’t stop us from dressing up and taking pictures at the park! haha

She insisted on wearing these chopsticks in her hair ….like Mulan she said….

But that didn’t last long…lol

Okay, now for my pattern review:

Pattern DescriptionBUTTERICK 6046 VIEW D

Pattern Sizing: I cut a size 2. (Always be sure to check the sizing on your pattern before you cut; even though Abbie wears a size 3T in Ready-to-Wear store bought clothes, she is a size 2 in most patterns according to her measurements.)

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing it?  I think so, yes.

Were the instructions easy to follow?  Yes. I was able to finish within a few hours.

What did you particularly like about the pattern?  I loved that the pattern called for a lined bodice – Because if it didn’t I would have lined it anyway! (haha)

What did you dislike about the pattern? Nothing.

Fabric Used: Dress: Quilting Cotton / Sash: Chiffon

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:  I made a few:

  • I used as solid contrasting bias tape along the top of the bodice wrap and on the hem of the skirt.

  • I used an invisible zipper instead of a regular zipper and did not use a hook and eye and
  • I tripled the width and doubled the length of the sash so I could wrap it like a kimono sash.

I think it somewhat resembles a kimono right? It could pass. And that’s it for today guys! Hope you all are having a fantastic week! Talk to you soon! xoxo
