Happy Sunday Lovelies!
Soooooo full disclosure, this upcycle wasn’t planned for February, but it happened. #Thespiritedone celebrates 100 days of school on Tuesday, and for this 100th day, she can either dress in green, or dress as if she was 100 years old, ….not surprisingly she choose both! lol. I picked out all the green fabric I had, so she could have the good selection to pick from, but what does she do? She picked the shirt I got from Goodwill a few weeks ago, that I had already planned an Easter sew for, and I even bought a new pattern for it too. Needless to say I was a little annoyed and to make it worse I felt the pattern she picked was just not fitting, I just couldn’t see it in stripes. But she’s a strong willed one, and before all else, I want her to feel comfortable expressing her fashion sense and allow her to like what she likes, and for her to trust that I’ll help her and encourage her to express herself (within good age appropriate reason of course). So I bit my tongue and got to work, the more I worked on it, the more I could see her vision. It really turned into the most adorable sew, and its absolutely perfect for her dress up idea on Tuesday.
So I have learned my lesson: I must learn to trust her vision more, and just enjoy the journey because she knows what she’s doing! lol
Pattern Used: The Muttonchop Top/Dress by Duchess & Hare
Size Made: Size 4
I tried to match up the lines where ever I could, but here are the parts of the Old Garment I was able to keep:
1. The Original Mandarin part of the collar: Modified to fit her neck size by slicing it in half with the seam in the back.
2. The Original Cuffs: Same as the collar, both were sliced to fit.
3. The Breast Pocket: Removed the pocked from the shirt breast, and added it back to the skirt portion of the dress. I did make sure to match up the lines.
4. Original Hem of the Shirt: I did add two more buttons to the placket, one at the midsection and one at the very end.
And now for some action shots!
Once she gets dressed up on Tuesday, I’ll be sure to the take a picture and edit this post!
Thanks for stopping by today, talk soon!
