Happy Friday Lovelies!

It’s that ONE THIMBLE time of year again! I know its been a while since I blogged, BUT THIS ISSUE IS SUPER SPECIAL!! not only do I get to sew up some pretties and tell you about them, but ISSUE 14 features MY VERY FIRST MAGAZINE INTERVIEW! *insert excited squeal here*

Screen Shot 2017-02-09 at 1.26.37 PM

In my interview, I share with you my journey from falling in love with PDF pattern testing to creating PatternTesters.com and then having to rebrand it just a few months later to SewingPortfolios.com because of how quickly the site and it’s potential grew. Even though I promised to focus all my energies on the growth of SewingPortfolios.com for the first six months of this year, I could not miss the chance to sew for One Thimble Magazine. So, welcome to my stop on the One Thimble’s Issue 14 Blog Tour! For Issue 14, I’ve sewn two very fun patterns!

SEW #1: THE LALA SKIRT

The Lala Skirt by Bubby and Me Creations. The pattern runs from a size 1 – 10 years and features an elastic waist band and 5 layers of gathers, perfect for a fun and funky twirly skirt. The pattern says its suitable for soft draped fabrics, but I went ahead and did it in some super fun quilting fabric from Michael Miller Fabrics from the La Dee Da Collection. [shipping in stores mid February 2017]. Netflix released some new LalaLoopsy shows and Abigail has been totally into them, so I thought the pattern and fabrics would make for a really fun LalaLoopsy looking skirt.

She’s been a little testy about taking photos recently, but I discovered if I let her have some say in the matter, she’s ready and willing to take them! So, I told her she could dress herself for this shoot, she picked her top, her favorite glittery boots, her accessories and even told me how she wanted her hair…then she told me she needed a bow tie too! But not just any bow tie, it had to be two colors ….lol. She’s totally been into bow ties since we made the Oswald Pond and William Bow Ties from Parapalu Patterns back in Issue 12 of OT (You can view that post HERE). I’m so glad it only takes about 20 mins to whip one up!

I wasn’t sure how this outfit would come together, but I have to admit, it was pretty darn cute!

She didn’t even care that the skirt didn’t have pockets, she just loved how bright and puffy the skirt was, – even declared it her most fun skirt!

I really like that with the elastic waist band she can dress herself, but my favorite thing about the Lala Skirt is the potential of those 5 layers, depending on what type of materials and color combinations you use.

SEW #2: THE LOLI DRESS & TOP

The The Loli Dress & Top by Bobkin Designs. This pattern runs from a. size 2 to 10 and  features an elastic back or button back closure. The straps can either come straight across or with added length, criss cross on the back. I opted for the criss crossed back.

It’s meant to be a Retro shorty length dress that hits mid-thigh, but with Vanessa’s blessing I modified my version to a sweet maxi dress. [This modification is NOT included in the pattern] The fabric I used is from Michael Miller Fabric’s Garden Party Collection [also shipping mid February], I felt it just screamed “summer maxi”!

I was a little sad we had to take these pictures inside because of the rain and cold, but Mother Nature granted me a window of sunshine and warmth that same afternoon, so we took the chance to get some outside shots.

I know you’ve probably seen a hundred renditions of a breezy summery dress, but my favorite thing about the Loli dress is that it has a very unique yoked front that makes for a beautiful side curve. I haven’t yet found a feature like this in a  sundress pattern.

She loves the dress, but asked if that she could have a “shorter” one next time with pockets, *womp womp womp: …so I may just cut this down an bit to how it was originally suppose to be and add some side pockets. If we have another summer like the one we had last year, then we can definitely see some tops in her future as well!

And remember, you don’t have to buy the entire magazine, you can still purchase single patterns on the website HERE. BUT if you were to purchase the entire magazine here’s what you would get!

  1. Candice, you are AMAZING! I absolutely love both looks. Your fabric choices are so fresh and inviting. Your daughter did an absolutely wonderful job styling her skirt. OMGosh, somebody’s been watching mommy! Every piece she added works so beautifully together. I love her hair too! How blessed you are to have a little girl to sew for, and that she enjoys it. Continue to treasure and enjoy every minute of this precious time with her.

Congratulations on the magazine article also. May God continue to bless you with the desires of your heart.
