Happy Friday Lovelies!
Today is my stop on Sofilantjes Patterns Second Anniversary Mashup/Hack Blog Tour! This particular tour is a very fun one because it includes a special shop coupon code, plenty of giveaways and a super fun scavenger hunt! But I’ll tell you more about these and how to enter them after I share my HACK for the tour. *wink*
I really do enjoy hacking patterns, it actually comes in at a close second to my love for Upcycling. Hacking is fun because I get to think of new and innovative ways to use one pattern to get a different look. From all the lovely PDF patterns of Sofilantjes, I decided to hack the Amare Top and Dress. Fabric used: Michael Miller Fabrics Tweet La Vie.
“The bodice of the Amare Top and Dress is designed to be as seamless as possible. The only seams are in the front, where the panels are sewn together and in the skirt. The side panels are one part and there are no shoulder seams. All seams in the bodice are enclosed between the main fabric and the lining. There are two length options and two embellishment options. In length you get to choose between top or dress length. The dress is made to hit just below the knee. ” – cited from Sofilantjes.com
I decided to hack this dress 3.5 ways. (I say .5 because it’s not so much a hack as it is a modification to the skirt measurements). For my FIRST Hack I used an invisible zipper instead of buttons/snaps for the back closure. (I’m sure you’re not surprised (haha), you know my obsession with invisible zippers lol).
For my SECOND hack, I added a square pocket within the inseam of the front of the dress. This was kinda fun to figure out, because the one pocket has two openings kinda like those pockets on sweatshirts.
For my THIRD hack, I added a short ruffled skirt with a narrow hem to the TOP version of the pattern and turned it into a dress. I cut a size 18months per Abbie’s chest measurement and then added a ruffle skirt measuring 5.5in tall x 3 times the width of the fabric.
Now for the .5 modification, I simply doubled the skirt width to give it a more gathered look. The purpose of this was so that it would look right with a ruffled hem. (See, I told you, it’s not much of a hack)
And there you have, my hacks for the Amare Dress and Top Pattern. NOW for the fun stuff!
