Hey all!
Have you ever had so many committed projects lined up that you try and figure out ways to “kill 2 birds with one stone?” This is what happened to me this past week! lol I’m knee deep in sews and prepping content for my second annual Upcycling Challenge but I had already committed to being a part of Project Run and Play’s June Pattern Release Blog Tour so naturally I tried to find a way to make this work!
It worked out nicely, because one on the newest patterns to release this month in the Project Run and Play Shop is the Merry Go Round Dress and Top, it features a button down back and peplum which made it a perfect pattern for an Oxford shirt upcycle; from an adult shirt to a cute little summery top. ! I paired it with the Susie Shorts from Modkid, also found in the PR&P Pattern Shop.
I feel like the after photo popped better on the green verses the white wall, so here’s another version.
I did have to make some modifications to this pattern since I’m using the original button placket of the shirt verses sewing an entirely new one, and since I’m using bias tape (cut from the original shirt sleeves) to finish the armholes (the original pattern has a fully lined bodice) . I will share exactly how I did this step by step, in my kick off post for the Upcycling Challenge July 01, 2019, so please do come back to visit the blog then or follow the #CAUpcyclingChallenge2019 on IG if you’d like to see how I achieved this shortcut.
I also used the bottom of the original shirt for the peplum piece so I did not use the measurement from the chart in the pattern.
My favorite feature of the Merry Go Round Top and Dress, a part from the convenient button closure is the adorable ruffled neckline. The original pattern comes with 2 size options for the collar and a ruffled sleeve option.
Now for some action shots! Can you tell she’s loving this cool and breezy outfit? lol
Here’s a close up of the pocket detail on the shorts. This lady bug fabric is designed by Carolyn Gavin for Windham Fabrics.
Seriously, how perfect for summer! Am I right?!
