Happy Saturday Guys!

I’ve been saving this stellar print especially for today!  But before I get into why, let me share the back story! Two fun things happened with Abigail recently:

  1. She fell in love with science and all things astrology.
  2. She discovered the humor in puns; and much to our dismay, uses them often! lol

When I got this fabric, I thought I’d make her a really nice dress, something twirly to show off the print, but no, she had another suggestion, she said it would be perfect for a “SPACE SUIT”  – get it? Because its a print with space and planets on it and a suit is something you wear? Pretty funny right? And I thought WHY NOT?! That’s a brilliant idea! So here we are, on the unofficial Star Wars Day sharing something “spacey and intergalactic”.

I used SIMPLICITY 8764 and even though this pattern is labelled a “Boys Suit” and only features boys on the cover, it can very well be used for both genders. One of the many joys of sewing is that you can be free to interpret patterns in any way you wish!

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern once you were done sewing it?  YES

Were the instructions easy to follow?  Easy enough since I had an idea of what I was doing.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:  There were many! I’ll list them below:

1. I removed the center back seam so I didn’t have to split the fabric pattern placement.

2. Instead of facings, I lined the entire jacket.

3. Used piping to separate the panels.

4. Instead of adding the outside square pockets, I added side pockets to the seam of the front side panels, because who doesn’t love sneaky pockets right?

What did you dislike about the pattern? Nothing.

What’s your favorite thing about the pattern?  The fit was spot on for her, and just look at how dapper she is!

Would you make this pattern again?  I’m thinking yes, because I’m pretty sure she’ll want another suit of some sort to go with her many many ties. lol

Anything you would do differently? Aside from adding the side pockets and lining it, No.

Here’s some more action shots!
