Hi guys!
It’s that One Thimble time of year again! This issue’s theme is all things summer and beachy! What’s even better is that this blog post also includes a chance to win a $50 coupon to One Thimble Magazine but more about how and where to enter for a chance to win at the end of this blog post.
For this issue, I chose to sew up the “The Daisy Ray Dress” by Ainslee Fox Boutique.
The Daisy Ray Dress is a comfy casual dress for your child to wear while playing. The shirring at the back gives it a fitted silhouette, and allows the dress to continue to fit as your child grows.
It really is one of the most darling dress patterns I know of. Seriously though, how cute is that tie hole front? It makes for a very sweet and classic look.
AND FULL DISCLOSURE, the pattern explains beautiful how to create a shirred back, but I was pressed for time (as we featured this dress in our Fabric Friyaaay Live video with Michael Miller Fabrics two days after) AND I didn’t have the proper elastic thread on hand and so I faked it! Instead of actual shirring I did narrow elastic casings to give it that shirred looked. The pattern does mention that you can do elastic casings if you so wish, so it wasn’t a complete cheat. The only thing I did do differently was lining the front and back bodice sandwiching both the front and back straps inside the bodice for a cleaner finish.
The fabric used here is part of the new Kashmir Garden Collection by Sarah Campbell for Michael Miller Fabrics and will be shipping to store in mid October. You can see the entire collection HERE. (You can also enter to win the entire collection before they hit stores, from that same link! Giveaway closes 8/17/2018)
And now for some action shots!
